The aim for our school is to create a curriculum that both reflects and serves the needs of the children within the community in which they are geographically and culturally located but which also ensures they are aware of the diverse and fascinating nature of the wider world.

We use the teachers’ knowledge of the children and their interests to help design our own curriculum that complements the National Curriculum and the Early Years Foundation Stage. When possible, we aim for outcomes and lessons to be based on real life experiences. We strive to develop each child as an individual and have high expectations of what every child can achieve and what they should experience whilst at Martley CE Primary School.

Our curriculum is planned and mapped to ensure that children are able to know more and remember more by revisiting and building upon prior learning. Knowledge and skills are sequenced to ensure that there is clear progression and so children will gain a secure knowledge and understanding of each subject as they progress through the school.

At Martley CE Primary School we ensure that all pupils access a diverse range of ‘enrichment’ opportunities. This helps every pupil to develop their cultural awareness alongside developing their individual potential. These include sporting activities; a wide variety of external visits; visitors into school; taking on roles and responsibilities in school such as school council and playground buddies; taking part in charitable work; visits to places of worship and other activities which not only broaden their learning but develop lifelong interests.
