PSHE
At Martley, PSHE is a vital part of our curriculum, supporting children to become confident, healthy, and responsible individuals. Through the Coram SCARF programme, we provide a structured, progressive approach that nurtures pupils’ personal development and equips them with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in an ever‑changing world. Our teaching is rooted in our core values of creativity, courage, compassion, commitment, and cooperation, ensuring that every child grows not only academically but also socially and emotionally.
Children are encouraged to explore ideas creatively, express themselves, and think imaginatively about the world around them. PSHE provides a safe space for children to discuss sensitive topics, ask questions, and reflect on their own experiences. We help pupils build the courage to make positive choices, stand up for what is right, and face challenges with resilience and confidence.
Through Coram SCARF’s focus on relationships, kindness, and emotional literacy, children learn to understand and respect the feelings of others. We nurture empathy, celebrate diversity, and encourage pupils to show care and compassion within their school, community, and beyond.
We support children in developing a strong sense of responsibility for their own wellbeing, learning, and behaviour. PSHE encourages pupils to set goals, show commitment and make thoughtful decisions that contribute to their long‑term health, happiness, and success.
Working cooperatively is central to effective PSHE. Through discussion, role‑play, and collaborative activities, pupils learn to listen, communicate respectfully, and build positive relationships. They develop the skills needed to contribute to a supportive and inclusive school community.
We are fully up to date with the updated RSHE curriculum and teach this through our Coram SCARF programme, which fulfils all DfE statutory requirements for Relationships and Health Education.
