PE

Physical Education Intent

Underpinned by our five core values — Commitment, Courage, Compassion, Creativity and Cooperation — our intent in Physical Education is to provide all children with a high-quality PE curriculum that enables them to flourish physically, emotionally and socially.

We are committed to ensuring that every child develops the knowledge, skills and physical literacy needed to lead healthy, active lives. Through a broad and balanced curriculum, pupils build fundamental movement skills and progress in a wide range of sports and physical activities. In doing so, they develop commitment to improving their own performance and maintaining positive habits for lifelong wellbeing.

We encourage children to demonstrate courage by trying new activities, challenging themselves and stepping outside their comfort zones in a safe and supportive environment. Through perseverance and resilience, pupils grow in confidence and self-belief, recognising and celebrating their God-given talents.

Physical Education provides meaningful opportunities for cooperation, as pupils work collaboratively in teams, communicate effectively and strive towards shared goals. We actively promote compassion, teaching children to show empathy, respect and encouragement towards others, valuing fairness, inclusion and good sportsmanship.

We foster creativity by enabling children to express themselves through movement, dance, gymnastics and problem-solving challenges. Pupils are encouraged to explore, adapt and refine their ideas, developing imagination and originality within physical performance.

Through inclusive, high-quality teaching, we aim for every child to leave Martley CE Primary School physically confident, resilient and motivated — ready to embrace opportunities, contribute positively to their communities and flourish in our diverse world.

We are proud to be recognised by the School Games Mark Award and have achieved Gold several years in a row for our efforts with Physical Education across the school. We are part of the Chantry High School inter-house cluster and take part in a variety of sporting festivals and competitions.
