Computing
Computing Intent
At Martley CE Primary School, we aim to deliver a high-quality computing curriculum that equips all pupils with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Our curriculum is underpinned by our Christian vision and our core values: Creativity, Commitment, Compassion, Co-operation and Courage, which shape both the experiences we provide and the attitudes we encourage in our learners.
Our computing curriculum fosters Creativity by providing opportunities for pupils to design, create and evaluate digital content through coding, multimedia projects and problem-solving activities. Pupils are encouraged to explore ideas, express themselves and apply their learning in imaginative ways using a range of technologies.
We promote Commitment by encouraging pupils to persevere when faced with challenges in programming, debugging and computational thinking. Children learn that mistakes are a valuable part of learning and develop resilience as they work through problems and refine their digital creations. This commitment to learning supports the development of logical thinking and independence in computing.
Compassion is embedded through our teaching of digital literacy and online safety. Pupils learn to respect others in digital environments, understand the impact of their actions online and develop empathy when communicating through technology.
Our curriculum also promotes Co-operation by providing opportunities for collaborative learning. Pupils work together to share ideas and support one another in solving computational problems. Through discussion, teamwork and peer support, children learn that technology can be a powerful tool for collaboration and collective problem-solving.
Finally, we support Courage by helping pupils to explore new technologies, take risks in their learning and develop confidence when approaching unfamiliar digital challenges. Children are empowered to ask questions, test ideas and become independent learners who are not afraid to experiment and innovate.
By embedding the 5 Cs throughout our computing curriculum, we ensure that pupils at Martley CE Primary School develop not only strong technical knowledge and skills, but will flourish as individuals in this diverse and digital world.
